Donnarumma is a different kind of keeper than Ederson, says Guardiola

Gianluigi Donnarumma is a different kind of goalkeeper than the former first choice of Manchester City Edererson, said Pep Guardiola manager Friday, adding that he would not ask the Italian to replicate the role of his predecessor for the club.

Donnarumma, an excellent Scotstopper, arrived this month from Paris St. Germain as Brazil International Organeson, known for his ability to launch attacks from the back with an accurate ball distribution, left for Fenerbahce after eight years in City.

«Ederson helped us to create a special way. He is a special man … Edy has done everything here, won everything,» said Guardiola reporters prior to Premier League collision of Sunday with local Rivals Manchester United.

«I would not demand Gigi (Donnarumma) to do something that he does not feel comfortable with. We don’t ask Gigi to do what Nummeron has done … It’s not about undermining the other. They are different.»

Guardiola said that Donnarumma, who won four Ligue 1 titles and the Champions League with PSG, offers a lot of experience with the team.

«He is so big. That is what he gives us. He is a big presence. We play in large stages. He is going to admit goals, but we will all try to help him,» said the manager about Donnarumma, who stands almost six and a half a foot long (1.96 m).

Guardiola, however, did not say whether Donnarumma would start against United.

«I met him on Wednesday. We (had) had a good conversation. Thursday was training. I was in my office, so I didn’t see him,» he added.
