Donnarumma says he will work on passing the ball from behind after moving to Man City

Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma said he will try to improve his ability to pass the ball from behind after the switch to Manchester City.

City signed Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday, although he is not known for build-up skills with his feet-mestal an important requirement for keepers coached by Pep Guardiola.

«I always try to help the team and do what the coach asks of me. I do everything; you can always improve everything, but with regard to what the coach asks of me, I try to improve,» said Donnarumma in the training camp of Italy on Wednesday. «I’m sure we are doing a great job with Guardiola.»

Donnarumma-one of the world’s best shot-stoppers-was a key figure in PSG’s Run to the Champions League title last season, but was considered surplus for requirements in the French club after the signing of Lucas Chevalier from Lille last month.

The problems with his feet were also clear in incidental striking errors during his term of office at PSG.

«Because I started playing at 4 pm until today, I have always done great things. Errors will always happen. But I believe I have achieved great things,» said Donnarumma, whose rescues were decisive when Italy defeated England in the final of the European Championship in 2021.

Donnarumma replaces City’s old Brazilian goalkeeper Edererson, who was sold to Fenerbahce.

Ederson helped to bring a revolution into the position of the goalkeeper with his creepy calmness under pressure with the ball at his feet, and offered seven assists in the Premier League – two more than any other keeper – thanks to his long, ranging steps.

However, Donnarumma is now the future for the city, after signing a five -year -old deal.

«I couldn’t wait to become a member of City because they really wanted me. The coach really wanted me, and that made me proud. To be sought so strongly by the best club in the world makes me proud,» Donnarumma said.

Before he becomes a member of City, Donnarumma has another high -pressure work with Italy, which tries to prevent you from not being eligible for a third consecutive world cup. The Azzurri -Gastheer Estonia in Bergamo on Friday and then plays Israel in Hungary three days later.

It is the first games since Gennaro Gattuso took over as a coach of the fired Luciano Spalletti in June after the four-time champion lost 3-0 to Erling Haaland’s Norway.

Italy has three points of two games. Norway, which played four games, leads group I with 12 points, and Israel is the next with six points from three games.

«I was lucky to have Gattuso as a coach at (AC) Milan,» said Donnarumma. «I know what kind of person he is and what he can bring. I am glad I found him here again. We give everything we have to bring Italy back to the top. We must be humble and united to build teamwork.»
