Desire
Since I have memory, I wanted to drive through the United States. In primary school, a friend of mine traveled for a summer. They had a map at their home that highlighted the route and its stops. It was very great. You should keep in mind that I really don’t enjoy driving. Seeing the country is worth it.
Backpacker
This blog post will not have any backpackers. I’m sorry. The last backpacking trip we made was on the weekend of the day of the fallen with our good friend of the path, ready. Grayson’s highlands were beautiful and full that weekend.
We have put our packages, we have loaded with our entire team and walk approximately 3 miles several times in recent days. We were 8000 feet the first time 9000 feet of the second, and we were camping, but I don’t think he counts as a backpack.
I know that the photos we take will only turn on great memories, they will not show all the beauty of the path. Some will be included in future publications anyway.
Park
We were mostly in state and national parks while we drove throughout the country. These are an incredible resource and enjoy each of them.
Cosby TN – Smokey Mountains National Park – Beautiful, very close to the AT, we really feel at home here. Last park with bear warnings to the Sierra.
Nachez Trace State Park TN – Heat, humidity, massive storm of thunder and incomplete neighbor prevented us from exploring too much. It is still a very nice park.
Lake Dardanelle State Park ar – Gorgeous Park with, with much, the best bathroom facilities of all. Hot and humid at this time of year.
Quartz Mountain State Park OK – The mass warning of Tornado and Thunder Storm just north of us prevented me from enjoying this park too much. We had a great conversation with one of the instructors in the arts camp that is close.
VILLANUEVA STATE PARK NM – The best dream so far, humidity is very down, fresh at night, beautiful stars, beautiful location.
Nice Campground near Sunset Crater National Monument Az – Very great walk through the lava fields. First night in any real elevation.
Desert View Campground Az – Two nights here. He walked halfway through the canyon (great) before the heat turned us around.
McWilliams Campground near Las Vegas NV, two nights here. Probably my favorite camp. I coined the first night, I would like to have my quilt in the store. Beautiful views and hiking trails. It’s hard to believe that we are so close to Las Vegas.
Camp High Sierra in Mammoth CA – Very good camp, the only private camp in which we stayed. First place from Cosby, where there is some concern for wildlife and food. Huge bears boxes in each camp.
The unit
The impulse throughout the country, the real -driving part, was not as bad as expected. My stress increased around the big cities, the more lanes, the higher the stress will be. My stress also increased downstream in the largest mountain areas. I loved to drive through the flat parts of AR, OK, TX and NM. The total blackout dust storm in OK was short enough to be interesting. We were on a road somewhere when he hit, there was no traffic at all.
Acclimatization
During the past week we spent 2 nights above 7000 feet in the Grand Canyon, 2 nights above 8000 feet in Nevada and 2 nights of less than 9000 feet in ca. The night before our backpacker begins, we will be at 10000 feet. We have walked a lot in these elevations and we have even taken our packages too.
Although our lungs feel good, I know I am not in a way as good as leading the AT. Since I finished the at, I have walked, ran and back, but there is not as much as during the year prior to the AT. We are planning much less miles per day in the JMT, we will see how the altitude and heavy package affects me.
Final thoughts of pre -caminata
Seeing the Sierra, still limited with snow, yesterday it scared me a little. The paths of paths are mixed, some say how easy it is, others talk about how fearful some of the passes remain. As an engineer, I like to know that an effort will succeed. As an outdoor adventurer (aspiring), I know that sometimes Mother Nature has its own plans. We will be cautious and safe with this trip, mainly because we have begun to plan the next one and I am very excited about it.
I miss the comforts of the home and the work that I do for payment. I am grateful for customers that allow me to disappear for months. Maybe I was getting too comfortable at home. I know I returned from the most relaxed AT and willing to follow the current. Hopefully this time would have similar positive impacts on me.
When does it become a true outdoor adventurer? I am not talking about the Andrew Skurka level, more like the type of the neighborhood that everyone considers to be an adventurer, somewhere close to Johny Robinson. I still feel like an imposter.
