Durand Cup 2025: Sanan shines while Jamshedpur beats FC Indian Army FT

The second half strike by Sanan Mohammed ensured that Jameshedpur FC won a 1-0 win over the Indian army FT for his successive victory in group C of the Durand Cup 2025 that was played on Tuesday at the JRD Tata Sports Complex.

With this victory, Jamshedpur FC has six points of two games and is on top of the group, closer to sealing a place in the knockout phases.

The Indian army dominated the first half of the game to keep possession and to create the better opportunities. The Armymen could have taken a lead of two goals in the first 15 minutes, but Samir Murmu’s effort from a tight corner that was brought past the distant pole and minutes later Samananda Singh threw a header from a corner kick.

JFC found it difficult to match the physicality of the army side, because it dominated midfield with lethaolen Khongsai and P. Christopher Kamei who dictated the pace of the attacks.

The red miners used the long ball strategy and the use of Long Throw Ins to break down the army defense, without much success. Amrit Gope also made a fingertip to refuse army captain b. Sunil’s effort in added time of the first half to keep the scores on the lemon break.

The home team took the lead in the 52nd minute that completed a movement that started from another long pitch. Karthik Choudhary led the ball back to the danger area and Sanan Mohammed turned down the ball and skillfully ended past the Duiken Sayad bin Abdul Kadir in Doel.

There was more drama towards the end of the game, because the goalkeeper of the army was given the marching orders for a challenge on Jayesh Rane outside the penalty box, after the midfielder had beaten the false fall and walked freely to the goal. Defender Samananda Singh took the goalkeeper tasks for the last minutes of injury time while the Indian army penetrated an equalizer.
