Indian Women’s League champion East Bengal drew 1-1 with Kitchee FC to qualify for the group phases of the AFC Women’s Champions League in Cambodia on Sunday.
Sangita Basfore, the protagonist of India in the AFC Asian Cup qualification against Thailand, continued her momentum in club football and opened the score in the ninth minute.
Fazila Ikwaput, who had scored the winner in the previous match of East Bengal against Phnom Penh Crown FC, founded the Indian midfielder, who made no mistake to beat the goalkeeper Leung Wai NGA of Kitchee.
Kitchee clawed back in the game after the restart when Ho Mui Mei made it right just before the hour trip.
The Moshal Girls Needed a draw of the game and the composed defense, prepared by coach Anthony Andrews, refused to admit and denied a leading goal for the team from Hong Kong, China.
It will be the first performance of East Bengal in the AFC Women’s Champions League and the second Indian side after Odisha FC to qualify for the tournament in the new format.
