East Bengal FC has completed the signature of the Indian full -back Jay Gupta of FC Goa for an unknown transfer costs, the Indian Super League (ISL) side officially announced on Tuesday.
The 23-year-old has signed a four-year contract and will wear number 27 for the red and gold brigade. Earlier this year, Jay played an important role in the Kalinga Super Cup triumph of FC Goa, and the back-to-back Isl-half final ended, including a second place in the competition phase last season.
«I made my national team debut last year in Kolkata, so it is indeed special to play now for a large club like East Bengal from this great city,» said Jay.

Jay, coming from Pune, can work as a left back or left central back, which means that versatility is brought into the backline of the Kolkata-based club.

«Jay is a young and dynamic defender with enormous potential and proven quality at both club and international level. His arrival adds the versatility we have searched in the backline of our first team,» said Thangboi Singto, football, football in East Bengal.
After having honored his skills in the youth of the former FC Pune City, Jay ventured abroad, trained and played in Portugal with clubs such as GDS Cascais and Estoril Praia B, and later in Spain with Ebre Escola Esportiva.
Jay returned to India in mid -2023 and quickly settled in FC Goa, where he made 52 performances for two seasons.
In 42 ISL performances so far, Jay has two goals, three assists, 10 clean sheets, 23 interceptions, 51 successful tackles, 200 successful duels and 49 approvals for 2.860 minutes. His striking achievements include earning the ISL Emerging Player of the Month Award for October 2023.
The head coach Oscar Bruzon of East Bengal said: «Jay is a talented left-wing full-back. His ability to move forward and contribute to the attack, combined with his defensive firmness, makes him a valuable asset.
«His impressive versions for FC Goa and international exposure are strong indicators for its quality.»
