The preliminary court hearing at the request of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) over a decision by the French Football League (LFP) in the dispute between the club and Kylian Mbappé is scheduled for February 23, a source close to the case told AFP on Tuesday.
What is it about?
The February preliminary hearing is linked to the start of the same dispute in September 2024, when Mbappé left for Real Madrid on a free transfer after seven seasons at PSG and demanded 55 million euros in unpaid wages and bonuses from his former club.
The French league ordered PSG to pay this amount to Mbappé, a decision that was confirmed by the joint appeal committee in October 2024.
PSG refused to pay and sued the LFP in the Paris court, contesting these decisions.
Following this lawsuit, the LFP disciplinary committee and subsequently the appeal committee of the French Football Federation (FFF) did not consider themselves competent to decide the appeal.
What will the February hearing be about?
The preliminary hearing – on February 23 – will discuss the merits of the case, while the main hearing will take place a few weeks later.
PSG declined to comment when contacted AFP.
Unnamed individuals remain under investigation for psychological harassment, despite Mbappe withdrawing his complaint in July, according to another source close to the case.
The 26-year-old initially filed a complaint in June over the way he was treated by PSG at the start of the 2023/2024 season.
Mbappe argued he was sidelined by the Qatar-owned club and forced to train with players the club tried to fire after refusing to agree a new contract.
Are there other cases surrounding the same dispute?
Yes. A separate case, linked to the bitter confrontation between Mbappe and his former club, was heard last week by the French labor court, where the French star demanded 263 million euros ($304 million) in damages, and the club responded by demanding he pay them 440 million euros.
The verdict in that case is expected on December 16.
