Family and good luck – Fox’s AT Thru Hike – Day 31

Yesterday I received a text message saying that Red has family in Roan Mountain and they would like to see me. I knew they lived in Tennessee, but it’s a big state and AT is on the far east side. Talk about big surprises! Read more: csfd. We agreed to meet at 19E. This morning I just needed to go up and over Hump Mountain to meet them. Hump Mountain wasn’t a crazy climb compared to many other climbs so far. Still, I’m glad I opted to do it today instead of pushing last night. On my way to 19E, I crossed another state off the list!

NC Ready!

I can’t give a proper report on Roan Mountain City since I didn’t see much of it. Instead, I spent the day catching up with Red’s family, people I hadn’t seen in the better part of a decade. It turns out they have a hobby: freeze-drying food. We were able to catch up and bond over shared topics. I appreciate the fortunate moment that brought us together again.

Great views this morning

Shout out to Appalachian Station at 19E. I arrived early and not only did they let me in to pick up my package, they did it better. Today I forgot my hiking poles. This hit me in a moment of panic tonight when I suddenly realized I hadn’t seen them all day. Knowing that Appalachian Station on 19E was the only likely location, I texted and they have them! They put them in a discreet spot outside so you can pick them up at 6am.
