Seven fans of Greek football club PAOK were killed in a minibus accident in Romania while on their way to a Europa League match in Lyon, the Greek government confirmed on Tuesday.
“Deeply shocked, I was informed about the tragic accident in Romania that claimed the lives of seven young compatriots,” said Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. “The Greek government and our embassy are working closely with the local authorities and providing all possible forms of support.

PAOK communicated directly with the government, coordinated support for families and injured fans and sent club representatives to Romania.
PAOK President Ivan Savvidis called it “an unspeakable tragedy,” adding: “I am devastated by the unjust loss of young people, fans of our beloved team, who traveled to support our PAOK.
“I mourn with the families and millions of our compatriots,” Savvidis said.
Supporters’ associations of rival clubs Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, Aris and others also issued messages of unity and condolences.
The match in France is scheduled for Thursday.
In a statement, Lyon expressed its «sincere condolences» to PAOK and said a tribute would be held during Thursday’s match at the Groupama Stadium.
