Monterrey booked a place in the Klock-Rondes of the Club World Cup with a pounding 4-0 win over Urawa Red Diamonds in the Rose Bowl on Wednesday to claim second place in group E and to prepare a last 16-encounter with Borussia Dortmund.
Three goals in eight first half minutes sent Monterrey on the way to victory, with beautiful long -distance attacks by Nelson Deossa and Jesus Corona who came on either side of the cool finish of German Berterame.
Deossa placed Monterrey at the front of the half -hour work with a weak shot of 35 Yards and Berterame doubled the benefit four minutes later.
Corona added the third with the choice of distance goals in the 38th minute before Berterame scored the fourth in the second half of the stopping time.
The victory, in combination with the 2-0 victory of Inter Milan on the river plate, means that Monterrey finishes second and will record Dortmund in Atlanta on Tuesday.
Urawa, which was already eliminated after losing the two games, should have continued halfway through the first half when Ryoma Watanabe moved a pass to Yusuke Matsuo, but his bad first touch gave Ricardo Chavez enough time to block the target -bound strike.
The opener of the Mexican side came half an hour when the central midfielder Deossa found room to hit a thunderous, waving left-foot strike from halfway through the Urawa half that goalkeeper Shusaku Nishikawa fluttered.
Monterrey’s second came four minutes later when Alfonso Alvarado moved a pass to Berterame, which bowed a low shot in the bottom corner of the Urawa goal.
Even worse to come for the former Asian champion when Monterrey hit again from a distance, Corona took his attempt from 30 meters further than Nishikawa’s dive.
Nishikawa prevented Monterrey from adding to the Mauling early in the second half when he blocked Chavez’s efforts, and Berterame missed his second when he widely made his shot in the 52nd minute.
Watanabe laid a late free kick over the bar while the Japanese side was looking for a consolation goal, but Berterame slid inside to put the ball in the 97th minute to seal an emphatic Monterrey victory.
