FIFA Fines El Salvador about racist incidents in the qualifying match


FIFA has sanctioned the Salvadoran Football Federation (Fesfut) for racist and discriminatory behavior by fans during the Concacaf qualification match against Suriname for the World Cup 2026.

Fesfut said on Monday that the World Football Board was a fine of $ 62,715 to be invested in a previously approved extensive anti -discrimination plan.

In addition, the next official match of the Salvadoran team must be played with a minimum closure of 15% of the approved capacity of the stadium, especially in the stands behind the goals.

«FIFA, through its disciplinary committee, reported the imposition of sanctions to our federation as a result of the incidents of racism and discrimination that took place during the match between El Salvador and Suriname,» said the country’s FA in a statement.

The National Team of Salvadoran organized Suriname in the Cuscatlan Stadium on 8 September, in a match in which fans reportedly shouted and made racist and discriminatory gestures against players from the South American country.

«Fesfut repeats its fixed rejection of every manifestation of racism or discrimination and confirms its dedication to collaborate with FIFA, Concacaf and other international authorities to ensure that Salvadoran football is lived in an atmosphere of respect, equality and unity,» it added.

La Selecta, coached by Colombian Hernan «Bolillo» Gomez, his second in group A of the qualifications with three points, behind Suriname, four -way leader, and for third place Panama with two points, and Guatemala with one.

El Salvador organizes Panama on 10 October and four days later Guatemala will be confronted.
