FIFA gives Tunisia permission to select Rani Khedira, the brother of former Germany international Sami


Tunisia has received FIFA approval to select Rani Khedira, a former German youth international, for the World Cup in North America later this year.

The 32-year-old Union Berlin midfielder is the younger brother of Sami, who played in Germany’s 2014 World Cup-winning team. They qualify for Germany and Tunisia through their parents.

The Tunisian Football Federation and FIFA announced late on Wednesday that Khedira’s application to change national law had been approved.

The federation posted a “Welcome Home” message on its website Instagram consider Khedira to play for the Eagles of Carthage.

Tunisia are in Group F with the Netherlands, Japan and the winner of this month’s European play-offs could be Ukraine. Tunisia’s first two games are in Monterrey, Mexico, before playing the Dutch team in Kansas City.
