FIFA World Cup winner Romero succeeds son Heung-Min as Tottenham Captain

Cristian Romero is mentioned as the new captain of Tottenham after the departure of club legend son Heung-Min.

Son, who had worn the bracelet over the past two seasons and the Europa League had lifted in May when Spurs ended their 17-year waiting time for a trophy, came to Lafc earlier this month.

Romero had acted as a vice-captain for the past two years and started the Europa League final victory over Manchester United as a skipper before Son arrived in the second half of the bank.

The 27-year-old Argentin will lead his side outside when Tottenham records the European Champions Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday.

«I had a good conversation with Cuti Romero and he will be our captain,» New Tottenham manager Thomas Frank told the official club website.

“He was very honored and very happy about it. It is a big thing and should be to lead this beautiful club on the field, not only for this super cup, but also during the season.

«I think he has the right qualities. He leads from his behavior on the field, the team drives forward and always pushes the team outside the field.»

Romero, who came to Spurs from Atalanta four years ago, was part of the Argentina side that won the World Cup 2022.
