Barcelona teenager Lamine Yamal became the youngest player ever to be named in FIFPRO’s team of the year, and five players from Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League-winning side were also part of the squad announced by the global players’ union on Monday.
Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma – who has since moved from PSG to Manchester City – received the most votes with 13,609 out of more than 20,000 ballots submitted by players around the world, according to FIFPRO.
Yamal, 18, came second, with 10,167 votes ahead of the Spain and Barcelona winger. The previous youngest player on the list was Kylian Mbappe, who was 19 when he was voted into the team in 2018 after helping France win the World Cup.
