Fisherman’s Trail Portugal Day 5: Odeceixe to Aljezur
Distance: 22 km
Path section: Odeceixe to Aljezur
Conditions: Turbia rain, occasional, a lot of road walk
3 good things that happened today:
- Morning Café Meet-Up with Brail Friends and a delicious hot breakfast
- Discovered (and fell in love) Vinho Verde
- Registered in a cozy shelter in Aljezur with warm vibrations and a comfortable bed
After walking 30 km on the path of Fisherman’s Portugal day 4, I woke up in Odeceixe feeling surprisingly rested and ready for another adventure in Fisherman Portugal Trail Day 5. The 22 km route today led us from Odeceixe to Aljezur, with many road roads, some rainy skies and some unexpected outstanding aspects, such as discovering my new favorite wine.
We met with Sandra and Orion in a coffee in the city called long for breakfast. Odeceixe is small, but it still has some excellent food options. I stayed with my now daily tradition of a Milk (Portuguese white flat), and today’s breakfast was the following level: scrambled eggs with mushrooms, roasted and a salad. A little more expensive than my usual cake, but so it’s worth it.
BY THE WAY – If you missed my blog yesterday on the path of the fishermen, I would recommend checking it!
Abandoned for day 5 on the path of fishermen with an adequate Portuguese breakfast in Odeceixe. Meia de Leite, eggs of eggs and toast gave on the nail before the 22 km walk to Aljezur.
Fisherman’s Trail Portugal Day 5: Odeceixe to Aljezur
We arrived at the path at the last minute of the morning, and most of today’s route was walking by road. Leaving Odeceixe, there is a long paved section to return to the coastal road, and since the beach here is a famous surf place, the road was quite busy. There was just one shoulder, and the sound of the cars that accelerated was not exactly the atmosphere of the peaceful nature that I have loved. It is not my favorite part of the path of fishermen, to be honest.
The terrain was simple and not particularly picturesque, without epic cliffs or shock waves today, but I took full advantage of it. I appeared in my headphones and listened to a Portuguese podcast to continue practicing the language. Today’s episode was about ordering in a restaurant, so I made a mental note to try some phrases at tonight’s dinner.
Meanwhile, Oliver decided to omit the section today completely and caught a bus directly to Aljezur. He felt a little tired and thought a day of rest could help. This is a part that I really love about the path of fishermen is how accessible it is. If you want to omit a section or make a shorter day, often there is a local bus that can take it, or even an Uber driver!
Back on the road (literally) when we leave Odeceixe and joined the coastal path to Aljezur. It is not the most picturesque stretch of the path of fishermen, business and shoulder -free traffic, but a good reminder that not every day are all cliffs and waves.
Rainy roads and green wine
The sky remained gray most of the day, and we sprayed several times. After the sun and the bright colors of day 4, he felt a bit … opaque. But part of the long distance hiking is hugging the Not so worthy days too.
Once we arrived in Aljezur, we stopped in a small bar and asked for a glass of Green wine—A light white and slightly effervescent wine that is refreshing and crispy. After trying it the other day, it has become my new obsession. And it’s just like 3 euros per glass!
Enjoying a glass of Vinho Green in Aljezur after a rainy day of 22 km on the path of Fisherman’s Portugal, Luz, Crispiente and officially my new favorite drink after the walk
We recorded in our guest house, AliezurA private room with shared bathroom directed by a friendly couple. The whole place had a soft, surfer-host atmosphere that I loved. Clean, comfortable and just what we needed.
We met with Sandra and Oliver for dinner in a small pizzeria. After days of fresh seafood and traditional Portuguese dishes, it was nice to change it with pasta and pizza for one night. We will return to the varnacles and Vinho Green Tomorrow, I promise.
P.S. If you wonder what attracted me to the path of the fishermen, I wrote everything about it here!
There are no smiles here: pizza and pasta are a serious business for hungry hikers after 22 km on the Portugal fishermen’s path
Not every day they are epic, but it’s fine
Today was not the most exciting or beautiful day on the path of fishermen. But it was relaxing. Restorative. The type of day that you do not always remember for opinions, but remember for laughter, small discoveries (hello, green vinho) and the feeling of being in it. Along the way. In Portugal. Doing the thing.
3 lessons learned on the 5th:
-
Even road walks can show you something–I like how to trust your rhythm when the landscape is not motivating.
-
Hostels are still magical«Those who feel at home.»
-
Always prove wine. Always.
I am excited by the morning section from Aljezur to Arrifana. Hopefully the climate cooperates. Anyway, I am grateful to be here.
