BEACH SUBPING AND CLIFF Cliff de Sagres A Salema
Path section: Sagres → Salema
Distance: 12 miles (19.5 km)
Conditions: Warm, sunny, exposed. Many ups and downs. The water was turquoise, the beaches were perfect!
The path of the fishermen’s route from Portugal from Sagres to Salema could have been the most difficult day of the walk, but it was also undoubtedly the BETTER. (Well, I know that I said that on Cavalerio Odeceixe was the best day, but he takes everything!)
3 good things that happened today (Sagres to Salema) on the path of fishermen
-
Most oceanic falls on a day until now
-
Water crossing to the thighs while laughing hysterically
-
Our Villa -style stay in Salema (10/10 Trail Luxury)
After breakfast in our accommodation in Sagres in Kichershome (breakfast was included), we left sagres with the path turning east. We were no longer walking towards the edge of the world, but following the coast towards our final destination: Lagos. It is wild to think that I only have 3 days left. I feel sad to think about it, I don’t want this adventure to end!
Leaving sagres: In the wandering beginning on the path of fishermen
The morning began as something out of a comedy sketch. We could not find the path again, only a group of hikers wandering vaguely through Sagres’ backs, trying to discover where the route was recovered. Finally, we toured a giant hotel (fun fact: I stayed here in a yoga and surf retirement!) And finally we find ourselves back on the road, haha.
Not five minutes later, we arrived at our first beach of the day. Calm, golden, perfect. I immediately began to play like a small child, tiptoe towards the tide, going back while the waves rolled, laughing when my shoes finally soaked a little (fortunately the runners dry quickly!)
We saw Oliver and Sandra resting on the beach: Sandra had already swimmed in the morning and felt incredible. The whole atmosphere of today was relaxed, cheerful and full of small magical moments.
Beach jump on the path of Portugal fishermen
Today he felt like an adventure of beach jump with walks in the middle. Every few kilometers: another cove, another opportunity to undress and dive.
The water was turquoise – As, Caribbean level blue- and the beaches were a mixture of soft sand and dramatic limestone cliffs. Sometimes, I really forgot that I was in Portugal. We even saw storks today, including four baby birds in one of the cliff’s nests!
Today was a great elevation day. This section had almost 400 m of gain and loss of elevation, and you feel every meter. The path would go down to sea level, just to rise again. Rinse and repeat. My legs were definitely feeling it, especially after the tenth day of hiking continuously without breaks!
Trail Hack of the Day: Walk the beach!
In the mid -afternoon, when we saw another imminent set of curves, we did what any tired but ingenious hiker would do: we walked down the beach.
It turned out to be the best decision of the day. Of course, we had to cross the ocean at one point (to the thigh!), But we laughed and splashed like children. The cliffs here are full of arches and sea caves – He felt like walking through a postcard.
Ah, and a note: Most beaches today were bare beaches. No one hit the eye when we passed our packages, just something to be aware if you are walking through this section. Everything is very relaxed and normal in Portugal.
Reflections on the path of the Portugal Fishermen’s Path
The coast is changing as we move towards the east. Less wind, quieter waves, more protected coves. It is still impressive, but in a softer way. Today he reminded me why I love this type of trip:
-
Wake up somewhere new every day
-
Have clear milestones and movement
-
Put salty and sweat, then immerse yourself in the sea
-
Laughing with friends for wine and freshly cooked food
This path feels like a mixture of everything I love: movement, nature, connection and rest. It is not the PCT or the Colorado path, but is A path I will think long after I was home.
And if you are looking for a walk that allows you to take advantage of that rhythm through the children, No need for a refueling store or plan – The Path of the Fisherman delivers.
Salema Castillo (also known as our accommodation)
We arrived in Salema feeling soaked from the sun, with salt and extremely happy scab. Tonight’s accommodation? A legitimate castle!
We all stayed together in Village de Salema BeachAnd it was, with much, the most luxurious place so far. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a complete kitchen and access to a pool. All our jaws fell. And we only pay 115 euros among the four (28 euros each!)
We had collected my car in Sagres (I had left it there at the beginning of the week), so we had wheels for a career of groceries. We supplied ourselves with green vinho (obviously), fresh fish, vegetables and we made a feast. Oliver cooked, we wash the clothes and provide for one of the most beautiful paths so far.
Only two more days! See you tomorrow on the path of fishermen in Portugal.
