Villarreal has signed Ghana International Thomas Partey on a free transfer after the expiry of his contract with Arsenal, De la Liga Club said Thursday.
The 32-year-old defensive midfielder has agreed a season-hose deal and will arrive at the Villarreal Squad on Friday in the training.
Pedey was accused of raping two women last month while he was a player for the Premier League club. He is accused of five counts of rape with regard to two women, plus an indictment for sexual abuse against a third woman, between April 2021 and June 2022.
«The club is aware that the player is currently involved in legal proceedings in England. The player fiercely defends his innocence and denies all charges against him,» Villarreal said in a statement.
«The club respects its suspicion of innocence as a fundamental principle and is waiting for the judgment of the courts, which will be responsible for clarifying the facts of the case. In accordance with British law with regard to current procedures, the club will not further comment on this issue.»
Pedey appeared 167 performances for Arsenal and scored nine goals after participating in Atletico Madrid in 2020.
Villarreal, who defeated Arsenal 3-2 in a pre-season friendship on Wednesday, starts their La Liga campaign at home to promote Real Oviedo on August 16.
