Former Mumbai City FC manager Jorge Costa Dead on 53 after heart attack


Former Mumbai City FC manager Jorge Costa, the current sports director of FC Porto, died on Tuesday afternoon at 53 due to a cardiac arrest, the club confirmed.

Known as the ‘Beast’, Costa led the islanders in the Indian Super League for two seasons, between 2018 and 2020, third and fifth respectively in the competition.

He played 383 games with Porto and lifted the UEFA Cup in 2003, the Champions League in 2004 and eight league titles with the club.

He also made 50 performances for the Portuguese national team and scored two goals.

FC Porto «expresses its deepest sorrow and consternation at the death of an inescapable figure in the history of the club,» said a club statement.

«The legacy of Jorge Costa will forever live on in the memory of all Porto fans. You will never be forgotten, captain,» it added.
