Grimsby fined for player registration error after victory against Man United in League Cup


Grimsby Town’s unforgettable competition Cup Second round triumph over Manchester United has been a fine of £ 20,000 to draw up a non-intended player.

Fourth Krimsby surprised United by eliminating it after an exciting 2-2 draw in a normal time. However, the EFL said on Tuesday that midfielder Clarke Oduor, who was admitted to Bradford City the previous day, was registered a minute after the BST -Deadline of 12:00.

Grimsby reported the error himself and said that the infringement was unintentionally.

«The registration of Oduor was submitted at 12:01 because of a computer problem, which was not immediately spotted,» the club said in a statement. «We accept the fine and fully recognize the importance of following competition rules.»

The club now has to pay £ 10,000, with the remaining 10,000 suspended until the end of the season.

«We acted quickly and transparently, and we are committed to the highest professional standards,» the club said.

Grimsby faces Championship Side Sheffield in the third round on Wednesday.
