Happy inn the rain – the walk

The rainy weather made me jump to the shelter.

Navigation

Leaving the old huerto shelter, I left the way I entered. Most of the time, there is a path to reach shelters. So now it is a second nature to leave the same direction that I took to get to the shelter. We climbed the path a little and then the guy stopped to make his bulk of the morning. That left time for another hiker that followed us to achieve. He said he thought we were going to the wrong road and reviewed Farout. Indeed, we had gone in the wrong direction! The Apalachain path passed through the side of the shelter and through the camp. I was so grateful to follow me and said something! Who knows how long I would have been realized on my own. In general, I try to be attentive when making a mental note of how the path looks and in what direction I took before turning it off, but as I never turned off the path the night before, I never made the mental note and, therefore, I confused myself. Thank God there are other hikers and technology. The Farout application is huge to help navigate the path. He has GPS capabilities to let him know exactly where he is on the way. In case of doubt, use Faraout. Probably verify it at least 10 times a day to see water sources, views, shelters and campsites. I see where I am in relation to my destiny and count miles for the day.

High port inn

The rain came. Friend and I curl up a trail sign covered in Mile 520.5, Dickey GAP waiting for our Harborsite Inn transport service. Because I was friendly with dogs, I had a plan to stay there and send a package. The Harborsite Inn felt as if someone had gone out and ran home. Being in a private room, and not in the separate hiker bunk, felt too much like me in a private residence, intrusing the personal space of the owners. For me it seemed that I was in a girl’s room, one who was a swimmer since there was a framed poster of Michael Phelps on the wall, the only work of art in the room. There were two twin beds and, although it was only a guy and I stayed in the room, they asked that we only wear a bed. Friend, who is not a small dog in any way, and and squeezed in the only twin bed. I stayed in the room all afternoon and night. They had their own cat and dogs, which meant that the guy was regulated to our room and did not want to leave it. I sat on the bed seeing Dudy throwing while sleeping, imagining his dreams while looking at the rain falling out the window.

Gift of the gods of the path

The rain continued to fall the next day. They left me behind at the AT. After putting the type package and then mine. I realized that I was missing Botottle! You should have fallen from my backpack in the car of the car, either when putting my backpack or remove it. I would be starting the path without water, a terrifying realization. I tried not to panic, knowing that I could fill my water bladder in the next water source and drink that directly through the water filter. When we turned on the path, my eyes locked themselves in a stack on the floor next to the sign. My trapped breath, they were drinks! I picked up a bottle of water, surprised by my good fortune. The saying «the path provides». It really fits at that time.

Look at the weather

Rain torrent fell, the wind hit the trees. The weather was going crazy a little. I imagined what I would do if a tornado hit to keep a guy and I saved. I did not see a single soul on my walk, adding to my concern. Finally I saw other humans when I arrived at the Association’s refuge, a very elegant place, more like a real cabin than in the shelter. He is right on a road and, although he can order that food be delivered there, he was discouraged and had decided that for my moral and mental health, I needed to go to the city. I obtained a trip by transport to the Merry Inn Hker shelter, just at the end of Marion, Va.

Hostel jump

It was a platinum blazer for the day, someone who stays in shelters or hotels instead of staying on the road. I went from Harborsite’s inn one night to stay at the Merry Inn Haker hostel next. It was the difference in night and day. The Hostel Merry Inn Hiker is located in an old brick building in Marion center, located at the top of the Marion Outdoors Gear & Reupply store. Ash, who works in the outdoor store, was a sunbeam, very cozy and warm. She gave treats and sent us to the shelter. I shower, put on wet and muddy clothes in the washing and took a guy to look around the outdoor store. While sitting in a camp chair in the outdoor store writing in postcards, Gummi Bear went down. I was changing my clothes and saved my Ziploc money bag that ended in the washing machine because I had forgotten to take our pocket of my pants. I felt surrounded by kind, honest and reliable people.

Machado

There is nothing that I like the most when I get to the city that a good meal to sit in a good establishment. In the hostel Merry Inn Hiker curled up in bed, a large mattress of blown air next to the windows in one of the bunk beds. He was stacked with blankets so that Dude’s nails did not have the opportunity to pierce it. Doube had become friends with everyone in the shelter, they kindly took care of friend while I went out to eat. I walked a little along the way to my dining room destination, Macado’s. In my university city of Boone, NC, there is a macado that I frequented. I was delighted to return to one, very nostalgic. I sat alone at the restaurant but I wasn’t alone, I was surrounded by university friends in my memories. I was also very happy to have a good cell service, content to update with people through social networks.

Reversion

Back in the Merry Inn, the Hiker Lounge had a TV with VHS tapes available to see. Someone chose a VHS tape of the 80s, was called five million steps, the first full documentary of Appalachain Trail. It was a pleasure to see him. Fascinating to compare and contrast walk along the path at that time and now.

Bus trip

I went to Café Sisters for breakfast, right next to Marion Outdoors. Highly recommended! The city has a Summer Express Loop bus route what kind and I arrived to return to Trail. Doube sat on a seat on the bus looking out the window as a human, very nice.

History

I took a brief deviation out of the path to see the Musem settlers. I walked through the farm and through the farm. It was a beautiful building, staged to look at how it did in the past. On the way, in the house of the Lindamood school there was Magic of trails courtesy of the Church of the Sunnyhills community. While taking the historical environment, I had Gatorade and Chips, the guy received the peanut. I left a blessing in a sticky note with others and completed a trivia questionnaire that offered $ 5 in the Bear Garden shelter. He planned to stop there the next day.

Jet

With the rainy weather, the path was muddy, slippery and slippery. It was a bit of mud. I was walking with Gummi Bear and Bloom. They helped me get a guy on the ladder. They were stairs to climb on the fences that separate the culture and properties. I will go through the stairs and the guy could squeeze under the fences. When we arrived at the Bear Garden shelter for lunch, I forgot the $ 5 discount on the school test I took. Disappointing. It was a long day, I did not arrive at the shelter of Castañas knob until almost 8 pm began to rain again when I went to install my store, the guy went to hide in the shelter. Fortunately, the storm did not last long and the clouds separated to see the view from the top of the mountain.

Umbrella

In the morning, the guy played with the cortex, another dog along the way. They were persecuted along the Calva mountain. It was a day when I needed my umbrellas without stopping. Friend and I stopped for a snack at the Jenkins shelter. Doube put his head on Weathermans’s feet and refused to move. I felt so guilty forcing him to continue walking in the rain. Miraculously, the rain stopped a few minutes after we returned to the road. The sun appeared with golden light axes that leaked through the spaces in the canopy. Later that night began to rain again in the midst of configuring my store.
