The All India Football Federation (AIFF) announced on Saturday that it received 170 applications for the role of the next head coach of the men’s team, including two people with the names of Pep Guardiola and Xavi Hernandez.
However, it clarified that because the forms could not be verified, they were called fake.
«… The AIFF received an e -mail with the requests from Spanish coaches Pep Guardiola and Xavi Hernández. The authenticity of their applications could not be confirmed, and since then it has emerged that the E -mail applications were not real,» the Federation said in a statement.
The Technical Committee of the AIFF met on July 22 to decide on the head coach, and it was discussed that naming a coach with a deep understanding of the Asian and Indian football ecosystem would be very favorable for the immediate and future success of the national team.
IM Vijayan, the chairman of the committee, said: “Given the immediate needs of the national team, it is advisable to recommend three coaches from the nominated pool for the final consideration.
«Other prominent applicants, many of whom are highly qualified international coaches, will be taken into account in the future for long -term strategic roles.»
Accordingly, three coaches – Khalid Jamil, Stephen Constantine and Stefan Tarkovic – are nominated, with the final name that is expected to be completed on 1 August.
«Our focus is on finding a result -oriented professional who can maximize performance within the available resources and can make sense to the growth and future direction of Indian football,» said Mr Subrata Paul, director of national teams.
