Zero day
I took my first real day in Helena. A zero is where you walk zero miles in one day. Although walking to the restaurants and the supermarket for the replenishment of replenishment suggested a mile or two, but without a package I felt light and fast.
Crafty, Royal, Lucky, Flash, and we all put a trip with a boy we met at the Bob. It led us to get pizza and drinks and then to the capital for a photograph. When we leave the car with our packages, a strange question if we are lost. We definitely appear out of place.
Flash, lucky, myself, cunning, real
Our friend dropped flash and I in a super 8 and the rest of the boys go to sleep on the floor of his living room.
When we enter the room, Flash says: «I will give you the first rights of the shower.»
«Deal!»
The shower is just what I needed. Sweat, Earth, and who knows what else is dripping with my body. My feet and legs in particular need an extra strong scrub. All cleaned and fainted.
The next day is full of laundry, refueling and food. The typical tasks of the city. In the Super 8 parking lot I know a couple from Saginaw, Michigan. I grew up just 30 minutes from there! What are the probabilities? We discovered a return trip to the path through Facebook and another hiker. 6:30 am. Oh! Long before, I would usually like to return to the road after a day off, but the logistics of leaving the city seemed complicated.
The next day we are ready and in the hotel lobby at 6:15. Capital is already waiting. The trip appears and talked while we wait for her friend who is helping with the trip. The coffee takes to the lobby right in time to hook a cup before leaving.
Flash and I left ourselves right where they picked us up, which means a walk on a 70 mph road. Oh! We came to continue and it seems that someone exploded the forest. What have they been doing here?
Soon we arrive at the burning zone where the path has been closed for weeks and has just opened.
The section is not very long and everything on a dirt road. We see 2 firefighters later in the day and thank you for your work.
The path between Helena and Anaconda is something noticeable. It is not that it was not beautiful in its own right, but it was much on dirt roads on the first day, followed by many walked forests and some exposed high fields.
A water source on the path was a spring with water that flowed directly from a pipe. I love these water sources. The path seemed to stop just in the fence until I noticed a trampled grass that led to a place in the fence that took off the upper spike wire. The path passed over the fence.
Anaconda Alt
The CDT is known as an adventure path chosen due to all substitutes. I chose to do the Alt de Anaconda that walks directly to the city of Anaconda because it seemed easier logistically.
The disadvantage of the ALT is that it is mainly a road walk. The first 15 miles are dirt roads and in addition to the two dogs that threw and seemed aggressive, it was quite charming. I just pointed out my follow -up posts and I kept shouting no!
The next 12 miles were on the pavement. The first two roads were two lanes with a high speed limit. Most cars opened and gave me space, but sometimes they can’t and I lowered the berma a small way of adding security.
When I noticed that the road had mile markers and counted to zero, time really began to drag. I swear that the distance between the mile of the score 3 and the score 2 was at least one mile and a half. Then the sun was baking me and even with my umbrella, it was quite toasted.
The last path was a legitimate interstate of two lanes. This seemed intimidating at the beginning, but the shoulder was much bigger and really felt safer than the last way.
The hiker cabin
After taking some fast food and a fast stop at the gear store (I lost my Spork). I sat in the shadow with the intention of verifying my food supply and ended up lying on the grass for at least 30 minutes. I was hot!
Finally, I took a balance of what I had and went to the family dollar to replenish. Then the hiker’s cabin!
Anaconda has a cabin for hikers in one of her parks. You can camp right next to it, load your electronic products inside it, borrow a bicycle to travel to the city or use the Porta urinal that is only for the use of hikers. The community pool next door allows hikers to use their showers for free.
All this is completely free for hikers. There is a donation bottle if you feel so inclined. There are also banks and a picnic table inside, a hiker box, microwave and refrigerator. I am not sure why some people are so kind to the hiker’s garbage, but surely I appreciate it.
Huge shout and thanks to the city of Anaconda for being incredible. You are appreciated (:
