High exposure and loneliness in the col of the gloer/col cornu alternate – day 9 in the tour du Mont Blanc

We cross the staircase and crest section to take refuge du lac blanc on day 8 and face our last day on the path on day 9. The thunderstorms would arrive during the afternoon, so Vance and I contemplate how we wanted to finish our TMB walk. We had two options: walking from Refuge du Lac Blanc with all others to meet with the main path and descend 7,000 feet to Chamonix or take the high route with more than a thousand additional feet of climbing, increasing our descent to around 8,000 exhausting feet for the day.

I asked a couple of people at the shelter on the high route (Col de la Gliere/Col cornu) and nobody knew what I was talking about. I knew at that time that the weather allowed it should do so. This was our opportunity for a serious loneliness. This alternative was our opportunity to challenge ourselves … in particular. There was a short and very exposed section at the top of the GLIERE cabbage that the reviewers declared that it was a challenge, indistinct and not for the weak hearts.

Walk to index

After a typical breakfast around 8:00 am coffee and three pieces of bread with butter and jam, we prepare for the index. This path was already more remote and adventurous with some soft mango bar assistance sections, as well as crosses of rocks and rocks. He had a mixture of soft and short and steep ascents and ascents. He also offered incredible views of Mont Blanc and loneliness while we walked along the mountain.

Ascent towards the top of Col de la Gliere

Once we arrived at the Index cable car, we could say that this was the center for climbers and hikers of a day and where most of the crowds in Refuge du Lac Blanc probably came.

The decrease of the index towards the chol of the gliere was mild and shortly. The climbing was gradual at first, but finally became very steep. Although we had excellent views of the Valley below, my stomach was restless when we began to approach the top of the pass. I was scared. I do not like heights or high exposure levels, so this was going to be out of my comfort zone. All I had to think was what I read online and people made it really incomplete. All the time we climbed, I was trying to see where the mango bar assistance section was. From the distance, it honestly seemed that we were going to have to walk directly through the steep Scree and I admit that it was like «Oh, hell no. «

When we finally reached the «Incomplete» section, I felt relieved. It was not directly in the scart, but it was a tour. I feel that if I could overcome this section, anyone could. I could definitely see that this was incomplete in bad weather or if there was snow, but with sunny skies and zero snow, it was not a problem. I made sure to take my time and go slowly.

With that of the transversion

I have never breathed a greater sigh of relief than when we finally reach the top of the pass. We had panoramic views throughout the valley, as well as LACS Noirs. We could also see some Ibex! I just have to say that seeing the Ibex maneuver through the steep rocks made me jealous. It was ridiculously impressive. I want your knees! Anyway, I am very happy to have pressed to make this pass because in the end, the part that feared was not so bad and the rewards were immense.

We do not celebrate much because The substitute was not over. There is the opportunity to take side trails to explore more LACS NOIRS and LAC CORNU. We expected the weather to enter that afternoon, so we move forward.

Forward to the horn

Arriving at Col Cornu del Col de la Griere was just a mile and consisted of a lot of rock jumps, which was very fun and different! We enjoy the panoramic views of Mont Blanc and the Valley below before descending to the main TMB path.

Descent to plan Praz Junction

The descent back to the official TMB path was soft, except for a couple of steep places. It took us to the Praz Junction Plan, where we could fill the water next to the 2000 restaurant before starting our ascent to Brevent.

Killer views while walking towards the Praz Junction Plan

This alternative route turned out to be the highlight of our trip! He was an adventurer, hard, he had no crowds, and it was a good landscape change. If you have done this alternative before, I would love to know your experience or what you thought about the comments!
