How can East Bengal qualify for the quarter-finals of the AFC Women’s Champions League – Scenarios explained


East Bengal will take on PFC Nasaf of Uzbekistan in the final group stage of the AFC Women’s Champions League (AWCL) 2025-26 at the Hankou Culture & Sports Center in Wuhan on Sunday.

The defending Indian Women’s League champions announced their arrival with an impressive 3-1 win over Bam Khatoon on their AWCL group stage debut. Shilky Devi, captain Fazila Ikwaput and Resty Nanziri scored in the win.

However, the momentum was halted just three days later as defending champions and hosts Wuhan Jiangda FC triumphed 2–0, thanks to two early goals, including a penalty, from Chinese international Wang Shuang.

Despite the loss, the Calcutta team can still qualify for the quarter-finals of the continental tournament.

East Bengal need a draw or a win to become the first Indian club to reach the quarter-finals of the competition.

They are second in the group, level on points with Iran’s Bam Khatoon FC, but further ahead on goal difference (0 to -1).

Even defeat will… Moshal girls with a chance to progress to the knockouts as one of the top two third-placed teams, but they must not concede more than two goals and hope that Wuhan will beat Bam Khatoon later in the day.
