Well, it is not the sign of the summit in Katahdin, nor the Summit plate in Springer. It is not even facing the headquarters of ATC in Harper’s Ferry. But I ended on September 19 in Damascus VA, where my trip was short of Hurricane Helene last year. A good place to finish my trip with a walk of about 22 miles on the last day with my faithful companion Luna. Michele was there to greet us and congratulate me.

It is difficult to summarize the experience in a brief publication. The experience of a lifetime seems appropriate thought and the fulfillment of a dream that I have had since childhood. I am very grateful that my body and my mind were and allowed me to finish my walk to this mature old age. There are so many things to feel grateful, the hikers with whom I spent time, Angeles de Trail, employees of the shelters and inns where I stayed, and the trainers of trails who did an incredible job cleaning the damage of the Helene path. And, of course, my number one angel, my wife Michele. The immersion in the nature and simplicity of having everything you need in your backpack stands out as the highlight of my trip. I will have to dream some new adventures, although they are not likely to undertake something as long as the AT. Sign for now.
