IFL 2025-26: Aizawl FC holds Sreenidi Deccan to 1-1 draw

Aizawl FC held Sreenidi Deccan FC to a 1-1 draw in the 2025-26 Indian Football League (IFL) match at the Deccan Arena on Sunday.

While Colombian forward David Castañeda Munoz put the hosts ahead in the first half, an own goal from defender Jagdeep Singh restored parity late in the second period.

The result moved the Deccan Warriors to second place in the table with 12 points from seven matches, behind Diamond Harbor FC, who have a match in hand.

Aizawl, meanwhile, remains fifth with nine points from the same number of matches mDuJS.

Sreenidi dominated the game from kick-off, creating early chances through a series of free-kicks in dangerous areas. Munoz fired one wide, while Romawia hit the crossbar with another, offering a glimpse of what was to follow.

The breakthrough came just before the half hour mark. A long ball from Hardik Bhatt found Munoz in space on the edge of the penalty area. The Colombian controlled superbly with his back to goal before turning and firing a right-footed shot past Lalhruai at the near post.

Paulo Cezar, who impressed with his physical presence and attacking intent before an injury forced him off the field, came close to doubling the lead in stoppage time but his close-range header drifted wide. Despite dominant possession, Sreenidi went into halftime with only a small lead.

Fanai was the first to make a move in the second half, introducing Hriata from the bench in place of Vincent around the 65th minute.

Sreenidi’s intense pressing disrupted Aizawl’s short passing rhythm, forcing the visitor to take a more direct approach. Uzbek defender Timur Talipov delivered a number of long balls into the penalty area, and from such a situation the equalizer eventually came.

Captain Rempuia delivered a cross from the right flank, and Jagdeep Singh, trying to clear, accidentally headed the ball into his own net over goalkeeper Kamaljit Singh.

The goal came late in the match and despite seven minutes of extra time, Sreenidi was unable to find a winner. Both sides ultimately shared the spoils, with Aizawl putting in a resilient performance in the second half to earn a deserved point.
