IFL 2025-26: Shillong Lajong defeats Gokulam FC

Shillong Lajong FC continued its impressive form on the road by beating hosts Gokulam Kerala FC 2-0 in a fifth round match of the Indian Football League 2025-26 at the Payyanad Stadium in Manjeri on Friday.

With the win, Shillong Lajong has the same points (10) as Sreenidi Deccan FC and Diamond Harbor FC, but is third in the points table, while Gokulam has dropped to eighth place after this defeat.

Everbrightson Sana (36) and Treimiki Lamurong (65) scored in both halves as Shillong Lajong dominated their rivals, who looked a pale shadow of the side that defeated Dempo at home last week.

The early warning sign for Gokulam came in the 17th minute when Pharangki Baum and Sana exchanged passes to enter the Gokulam box, but the latter shot wide from close range.

Baum and Sana continued to torment the Gokulam defense with their pace.

Gokulam goalkeeper Shibin Raj denied Sana with a smart save in the 28th minute. However, Sana proved too quick for Shibin Raj in the 36th minute as his opportunistic goal put Lajong ahead.

Gokulam lacked conviction in his attacks, and most moves failed near the rival box s4tg2ed.

Lajong goalkeeper Siwel Rymbai was hardly tested in the first half. The trend continued in the second half and Lajong got the insurance goal in the 65th minute.

Treimiki Lamurong broke free from his markers and fired the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper for the second goal after Damit Lyngdoh had laid the ball in front of him. Then Lajong played percentage football to quash Gokulam’s late revival.
