Ilkay Gundogan completes the transfer from Manchester City to Galatasaray


Ilkay Gundogan completed a switch from Manchester City to Galatasaray on Tuesday and put an end to his second spell at the Premier League club.

The former Germany International signed a contract with Turkish Galatasaray champion and is the latest high-profile recruit of the Istanbul club during this transfer window after Victor Osimhen and Leroy Sane.

Gundogan helped City Five Premier League titles to win, two FA Cups, four English competition cups and the Champions League in his first enchantment with the club before he left Barcelona in 2023. He returned a year later, but City could not prevent City from enduring his first trophy season in eight years.

His departure comes after Pep Guardiola started a revision of his once dominant team, with nine players who have been recruited since January.

The 34-year-old Gundogan did not play this season in one of the three Premier League matches of the city and in recent months the pecking order was pushed down after the arrival of midfielders Tijjani Reijnders and Nico Gonzalez.

During his trophy-loading time in City, Gundogan was the captain the team that won a triple trophies in 2023-the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League. The previous year he scored two goals on the last day of the season to achieve a comeback 3-2 victory against Aston Villa to get the title.

He was the first signing of Guardiola in City when he came to Borussia Dortmund in 2016.
