The chances of India to qualify for next year’s AFC Under-23 Asian Cup was given a blow after it went 1-2 to host Qatar in a qualifying match of Group H on Saturday in the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium in Doha.
After this loss, India is now second in the group with three points from two games. Only the 11 group winners and four best second placed teams will cut back the continental tournament.
The host took the lead within the first 20 minutes of the game with Al Hashmi Mohialdin who scored a header from a corner. The teams went into peace with Qatar who led through a goal.
After the break with Mohammed Suhail Die, India immediately scored in the 2-0 victory of the Blue Colts on Bahrain in their campaign opener-turning Mohammed Sanan’s cross in the back of the net with a header.
In the 67th minute, however, Qatar restored his lead due to the strike of Jassem Al Sarshani from the penalty spot after Pramveer was found that brought Noureldin Ibrahim down in the box.
India will be confronted with Brunei on Tuesday 9 September in its last qualifying match.
