India loses to Tajikistan in the U-23 Tri-Nation title decider


The India Under-23 men’s national team lost 0-1 to Tajikistan in the deciding match of the 2026 U-23 Tri-Nation Championship at the Golden Jubilee Stadium, Yupia on Tuesday.

A first-half goal from Tajikistan midfielder Khaitov Azizbek (9′) proved the difference as the Blue Colts, despite creating a number of chances and applying sustained pressure, failed to find the equalizer.

With this result, Tajikistan clinched the U-23 Tri-Nation Championship with two wins from two matches, keeping a clean sheet in both matches. India finished second with one win, while Bhutan finished third with no points.

The Blue Colts started on the front foot, pressing high and putting Tajikistan’s defense under pressure early on. Suhail had an early chance in the eighth minute when he latched onto a precise through ball from Mohammed Sanan, but shot his effort wide.

However, Tajikistan took the lead a minute later. Lihat juga oaYsz. Azizbek’s long-range strike took a deflection off Pramveer Singh’s shoulder, wrong-footing India goalkeeper Mohan Raj, who couldn’t do much to prevent the ball from finding its way into the net.

The Blue Colts’ best chance came in the 69th minute when substitute Adison Singh Thokchom delivered a teasing cross from the left, but Lalthankima failed to connect with the goal at his mercy.

Despite a spirited effort and a flurry of chances, the Blue Colts were unable to break through the resolute Tajikistan defense as the visitor held on to secure victory and clinch the U-23 Tri-Nation Championship title.
