India vs Oman: Khalid Jamil and Co. Eye Cafa Nations Cup third with Asian Cup qualifications on the Horizon


The national team of the Indian Heren-De on the second lowest-arranged side in the tournament-olose play for third place in the Cafa Nations Cup when the Oman plays on Monday at the HISOR Central Stadium in Hisor.

After he played three games, India won one (Tajikistan), one lost (Iran) and signed an (Afghanistan), eliminating Tadzjikistan and Afghanistan along the way. Blue Tiger’s head coach Khalid Jamil, during the press conference before the competition, radiated the positivity that currently surrounds the team.

«All our players are fine and are all positive after these results. We have to continue this positivity in the next game. I have a good feeling that we can get a positive result,» said Jamil. “We felt from the start that we could do something good here, and I have to say that it is the faith and hard work of the players who brought us the play-off stage of the Cafa Nations Cup.

«The dedication that the players showed was great – whether it was seniors or juniors, everyone contributed. The way they were adapted to the circumstances was commendable. I never felt that we were used to participate – we came with a goal and the feeling was always positive,» he said.

While Jamil has surrounded the Blue Tigers camp with an atmosphere of positivity, the India head coach is wary of the potential threat that the 79th ranked Oman has; India is 133rd in the FIFA ranking.

«Oman is a very good team. It has a good coach (Carlos Queiroz), quality players, and it is well done in his group. It will certainly not be easy, and we will have to fight for everything. But we will be ready,» he said.

India has confronted Oman 10 times and the Blue Tigers still have to win a match against the last. The Reds have won seven of these games, while three have ended in a draw.

Despite the past record, Jamil is looking for a victory. He said, «First and foremost we must get a result – that’s the most important thing.»
