Golfers Aman Raj and Kartik Singh will resume their battle in the fifth event of the IGPL Tour as the veteran Patna golfer will take on the young Delhi boy at the Kolkata Invitational from Wednesday.

Aman held his nerve in the closing stages to win in Jaipur, while Kartik finished a close second. While Aman Gaganjeet looks to emulate Bhullar’s feat of back-to-back wins, Kartik continues his quest for a maiden professional title as he makes his fifth start on the IGPL Tour.

Kartik has been grouped with the experienced Harendra Singh and Saarthak Chibber in the first round of the Tollygunge Club.

Last week’s winner Aman is in a group with Ridhima Dilawari and Kapil Kumar. B. Kartik finished in the top 10 in four previous starts in Chandigarh, Jaypee Greens, Pune and Jaipur and now sits second in the IGPL rankings behind the leader, Gaganjeet Bhullar, who won in both his starts in the first two events.

Olympian Udayan Mane finished tied for sixth in his first IGPL start and will be back this week looking for a better result.

Some of the other stars looking to make a mark include Aadil Bedi, Pukhraj Gills, Syed Saqib Ahmed and Saarthak Chibber.

In the women’s section, Simi Mehra can be seen again in her hometown of Kolkata. The former LPGA player often plays on the Senior Tours on the international circuit. The women’s segment will also feature Sneha Singh, Amandeep Drall, Ridhima Dilawari, Durga Nittur, Jasmine Shekar and Khushi Khanijau.

Golfer Mohammed Azhar from Hyderabad shot a brilliant seven-under 64 to become leader by one stroke on the opening day of The Poona Club Open here on Tuesday.

PGTI Order of Merit leader Yuvraj Sandhu fired six-under 65 to finish second at the Poona Club Golf Course, while Gurugram’s Veer Ahlawat (66), the 2024 PGTI Ranking champion, was still a shot behind in third.

The quintet of Akshay Damale, Aaron Rockey, Aditya Bhandarkar, Adityaa Garg and amateur Arkin Patel were the highest placed among the Pune players as they returned scores of 71 to occupy a joint 29th position.

Azhar, who has been in good form of late with four top-10s to his name in his last six starts, started his week with a birdie-bogey. However, he soon began to cement his authority, adding three more birdies on the front nine, including a 35-foot conversion on the third.

Azhar, ranked 23rd on the PGTI Order of Merit, picked up four more birdies on the back nine, including a tap-in and an 18-foot conversion.

«I was hitting close to the flags all day. Here at the Poona Club Golf Course, a lot of importance is placed on hitting fairways and I hit a lot of fairways today. On the back nine my chipping and putting was excellent as I stopped hitting greens from the 14th hole and just made a lot of quality chip putts,» said Azhar.
