Indigo crisis hits Mumbai City hard, ISL reaches Goa six hours before Super Cup semi-final

In what was a crucial match of the season, Mumbai City FC’s AIFF Super Cup semi-final preparations were disrupted by the ongoing operational issues at IndiGo Airlines, which have led to multiple flight cancellations and delays across the country.

The Indian Super League (ISL) side was scheduled to travel to Goa from Mumbai on Wednesday, November 3, for the last four match against FC Goa on Thursday, but was stranded at the airport for over 12 hours due to the severely delayed flight.

Head coach Petr Kratky and midfielder Brandon Fernandes even conducted the designated pre-match media briefing from the airport at 4:30 PM. The team finally reached Goa at 2am on the match day for the 8pm kick-off.

«We were waiting at the airport from 11am. We did our preparations, but unfortunately these things happen. We were stuck at the airport and it showed a bit in the first 20-30 minutes because we arrived at 4am,» Kratky revealed after his team’s narrow 1-2 defeat.

«We were supposed to fly at 12 noon and the flight took off at 1 p.m. We travel like this all the time after training in the morning, and it turned out to be a very long day,» he added.

Mumbai City made uncharacteristic mistakes in the first thirty minutes and conceded two goals in three minutes which ultimately cost the team. Although they recovered in the second half, they could not find the equalizer to avoid elimination.

«That’s why I am proud of the boys for what they did. We made things difficult for Goa. We tried every possible way to solve the problem (travel), but there was nothing that could be done. There was no other way to get here, and it was very difficult,» he added.
