Inter Kashi will officially be awarded the I-League 2024-25 trophy after their final group match against Jamshedpur FC at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim on Saturday.
It marks the end of a forgettable story in Indian football, wherein the All India Football Federation (AIFF) had crowned Churchill Brothers as I-League champions, only to later revoke the title.
How did the saga unfold?
The AIFF Appeals Committee ruled Inter Kashi for a foul involving an ineligible player, resulting in a four-point deduction. This deduction took Churchill Brothers to the top of the I-League table and were initially declared champions.
Inter Kashi appealed this decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which partially allowed the appeal and ruled that the AIFF must reverse its decision.
Inter Kashi were declared champions of the 2024/25 I-League season, with the AIFF ordered to adjust the points table to reflect this.
Despite being declared champions, the club is yet to lift the trophy. The wait will end on Saturday.
Is the saga over?
While the story seems to be over, when Inter Kashi was awarded the I-League trophy in September 2025, Churchill Brothers moved the Delhi High Court challenging the CAS decision and the championship title awarded to Inter Kashi.
