Sensei and Ice Patch left very early, long before dawn. I went back to sleep until 7. Getting up at 6:30 or 7 is enough light to prepare breakfast. When I’m full of calories, it’s light enough to walk around. As a bonus, it meant I arrived just in time to get blueberry pancakes from Magic mama.
Today was a great walk. The sun was out all day. There are two reasonable climbs from Roaring Fork to the Deer Park shelter, which made for a day of cruising compared to the recent climb to Davenport Gap. Bluff Mountain had large rocks to relax on. I tied my gear between the trees to dry and took a nice long rest.
Just a cool little «cave» ledge I passed through
Upon arriving at Deer Park, I had no cell signal, but Grit said the Trailer has some open bunks. I’m old enough to remember paying long distance rates for calls. Yes, I’m paying for a bunk bed just so I can call the other foxes.
There were many trailside graves in North Carolina. Someone at a shelter said they can bury you anywhere with the owner’s permission.
So I made a short climb from Deer Park and then a quick descent to Trail”er,” where I could make phone calls. They allow free use of the kitchen. The hiker’s cabinet had flour and baking powder. I yogi prepared a couple of eggs and made buns for everyone. Grit made tater tot casserole to share and we went to bed with full bellies.
