Jamshedpur FC (JFC) recorded a hard-fought 1-0 win over Punjab FC (PFC) in the Indian Super League (ISL) at the JRD Tata Sports Complex Stadium in Jamshedpur on Saturday.
The Red Miners took advantage of a mistake in the second half to take three points against the Shers. The result moved JFC to second place with six points, while East Bengal FC topped the table on the basis of higher goal difference.
After a goalless first half, Vincy Barretto struck in the 78th minute to decide the match. Goalkeeper Albino Gomes produced important saves and provided the second clean sheet for Jamshedpur.

Jamshedpur head coach Owen Coyle made one change from the side that defeated Mohammedan Sporting, bringing in Nikola Stojanovic for Rei Tachikawa in midfield. Punjab head coach Panagiotis Dilperis started with Arshdeep Singh in goal, while Muhammad Suhail and Bikash Singh supported Nigerian striker Nsungusi Junior in attack.
Punjab threatened early. Muhammad Suhail saw his effort blocked and Bikash found the net in the 18th minute but was flagged for offside. Jamshedpur responded through Stojanović, whose long-range effort went wide, while Pratik Chaudhari missed with a close-range header.
Gomes was called into action twice in the 30th minute, first denying Khaiminthang Lhungdim and then producing a sharp save to keep out Suhail’s header. Samir Zeljković also tested the defense from distance, but the host held firm.
The second half started cautiously, with both teams struggling to create clear openings. Punjab came closest in the 73rd minute when Bede Osuji’s header was comfortably scored by Albino.
The decisive moment came in the 78th minute. Mohammed Sanan delivered a low cross from the right. Arshdeep came out to punch him, but it fell straight to the legs of Vincy, who reacted quickly enough to put the ball in the net and give the Red Miners the lead.
Punjab made late breakthrough. Manglenthang Kipgen shot wide and Osuji headed over in stoppage time. Jamshedpur, however, kept their nerves in check to secure another narrow win on their home turf.
