It is not what I expected: fire and walking closures on the mass road

This morning I slept until around 6 in the morning. Then I packed and ready for my trip to pick me up. He will bring me back to the path where I got hooked to the city last night. And then the curious thing is that I am going to walk on the road 23 miles back to the city. This is how my route has to take me.

The worst part of yesterday’s surprise of fire was probably that I was replenishing first. There is absolutely no way to have bought 4 1/2 days of food if I knew that I would walk by road for the next five days.

Of course, there would be some food. There will be days when I do not go through anything on my route. But in a few days, I will be in the city of Lander. So it is certainly exaggerated to have so much food. But what am I going to do, throw it? And then buy more food in a few days? That is simply ridiculous. So, instead, I have to wear a ton of water and a ton of food today.

For some reason, I did not expect Mike to be an older gentleman. Last night he had sent him a text message asking if he could make a trip back to the road. That was before he knew the fire. He said he couldn’t help me that night because he had an appointment. For some reason, that made me assume that I was younger. But I was probably the age of my grandparents or a little greater. He was a very nice man and we talked while he took me back to the beginning of the path. He tried to offer me to take me to Lander or Union Pass, where fire closure began. But it only makes much more sense for me to make this route and maintain a path.

Once he left me, I started the 23 -mile walk back to Dubois. I can’t believe that another 5 -day walk is starting. When I finished the last one, I was so ready to do. It is really difficult to do that again. But here we are.

It was a good cool morning while walking along the way. Last night I was looking at my route and I discovered that there was not much along the way. Today I can get more water or whatever in Dubois. So I hope to continue doing another 12-15 miles. Which will end sleeping somewhere next to the road. There is absolutely nothing on my map. Then there is nothing along my route. I really don’t even know if I have possible water sources tomorrow. That would be interesting.

Somehow, the afternoon passed quickly while I made my monotonous road walking. The shoulder was pleasant and wide, and the road was not too busy. I did a writing and video work that was very pleasant. And after a few hours, I also returned to the service range. In a moment while walking, a truck stopped and the guy seemed to recognize that I was a hiker. Then, suddenly, he shouted «Peg leg?»

The truck stopped and turned out that this guy had been on the path of the Apalaches this year. So he heard a lot about Punisher and I when we were arriving. He asked me if I needed anything more than honestly, I have everything I need and too much. It was nice to have a brief conversation with someone who really knew what he was doing.

Not long after that, the road was reduced for a while. I ended up going through a construction zone, which was not ideal. I no longer had a shoulder of any kind. In fact, I just had to walk completely along the way and get out of the way every time my car arrived. That was annoying, but it could have been worse. The road was not so busy.

Even in the road walks, there are huge bears prints.

Finally I approached the city center a little more. I started going on business on the outskirts of the city. Then I finally got to an sidewalk! My plan for the city was to stop at yesterday’s hamburger. Lisa was very pleasant and I thought she would be there again. But I was certainly not going to let it cover my food again today. I thought it would be good to return this afternoon as a client to pay.

That was the first place where I went to the city. Lisa seemed happy to see myself and thanked him for letting me know about the closure of fire. If she had not casually mentioned the closure, she would probably have not checked. What would have meant that I walked until Union Pass just to discover that the next path was closed. So I would have had to add a significant mileage to divert it around the closure. That really would have been the worst case.

I asked for a hamburger like yesterday and a milkshake of espresso coffee. Then I sat on the porch and got rid of my garbage. And evaluated how much water should obtain for tonight. I thought I should have enough for tonight and where I could do it tomorrow. I have no idea how my options will be tomorrow.

A Jackelope giant! I would have received a photo if I wasn’t walking alone.

Then I sat on the porch and ate my delicious hamburger. And there is nothing better than a coffee or an espresso coffee milkshake. That is my go basically everywhere. Except that most of the time you can’t get that anywhere. Before leaving, I said goodbye to Lisa, which is the sweetest absolute. He felt so warm and maternal, almost like my aunt. The way he spoke to me gently and disguised me. She made me feel very sure and at home, even in our brief interaction. When I finished there, I went to the next service station. I filled some water and Gatorade. Then he began to follow the rest of the way through the city.

The path continued along this beautiful river for a while.

I didn’t realize the bigger the city where I went yesterday had passed. Actually, there were many more companies in the city center as it continued. I spent a boy on the street who played the piano actually. That was great. Dubois center looks like a small funny city. The type of place that would have an incredible diving bar in which you and your tramilia would spend hours on a zero day.

Before light rain, the weather was perfect today.

Within the time, I was completely out of the city and basically walked anywhere. The next great attraction would be more land. And before that I think I’m just going to spend a service station in a day or so. There is not much in my radar for today and tomorrow. But I suppose that will do things quite simple in some way. When I left the city, I heard some music and wrote a little more.

Today I saw a lot of horses next to the road.

At one time along the road, I went through an army museum that had a lot of army vehicles and things like that. That was a bit entertaining to see, what was great. And not long after that began to assault slightly. I took my umbrella and put on my jacket just in case. But he never went too crazy. It was the rain for perfect umbrellas.

The Army vehicle museum.

I really didn’t have much plan for the night. I was just going to walk until it darkened and then, hopefully, find a good place in Artemis to call at night. That is really your only option here along the way. Due to a close-owned line, I can generally not get more than 20-50 feet off the road. And that is often very far from the road. So, when I start looking for camping, I’m just trying to find a large sage brush that can protect myself visually. That way, when the cars pass, they have no idea that I am there. But I also need to find a flat area behind the bushes. And the bushes have to be on my side of the fence line. Because I will not cross the fence line.

For the views of the road side, they were definitely not in poor condition.

I walked along the way and I saw a beautiful sunset. And when the night crawled, I began to scare a little. I think this always happens on my first night walking night. Although it really hasn’t been so long. There is only a strange element to be out at night in general. In the forest I also scared due to animals. But here along the way, I’m just a girl walking next to me at night. I didn’t even have a cell reception tonight. Not as if importing. From time to time I get very aware of how vulnerable I can be.

It is not what I expected: fire and walking closures on the mass road

Just at this moment, a family offered me a walk. But I kept walking along the road.

Unfortunately, tonight many guys wanted to be heroes. I had several cars behind me and I was scared. What were the intentions of those people really, we will never know. But after greeting them in the window of his car, while he held my bear spray, each driver offered me a walk and headed on his way. I cannot say whether the boys would have been persistent or spooky or not more if I had not been wielding bear spray, but I suppose I will never know. Technically due to the land I am going through here and Rawlins, I could probably have undone of my bear spray. But at this time, it makes me much more comfortable with my human interactions along the way.

Just when I thought I found a good place to call the night, another car stopped behind me. I looked back, but kept walking. And they sat there for a few minutes before driving. Then it seemed that they stopped in front of me. Which definitely scared me. But when I went through the vehicle, he was gone.

At some point around 9 pm I ended up spending a ton of Artemis. It was literally 10-20 feet from the highway. But it was super dense and behind him was a perfect flat place. I sat there for a minute and let some cars pass. It is always good to try your place to make sure it is invisible. And when I was there, I realized that I would have no problem. He had begun to rain at the last hour or so. So, my biggest concern was to sleep on the lower floor. If it ended up pouring in inches of rain, it could have a problem.

I settled my store very slowly due to the approximate cars. I had to turn off my lighthouse because I was very close to the road. It would definitely be a dead raffle that was there. So I took my time and prepared things as quickly as I could. Then I lay in my store and finally I could relax. This was actually a really solid camp. If it weren’t for the possibility of rain, I would probably have slept super good. But I knew I would be throwing and turning all night, nervous that the water could begin to accumulate in the bathtub of my tents.
