The discovery was made in Grindstone Mountain, at a height of approximately 4,000 feet, less than one mile where the bodies of the girls were recovered in June near Rock Isand Campground. The terrain is steep, very wooded and out of trail.
A drone that scanned the area picked up an «anomaly» that turned out to be a bright shirt that combined with a peak. He also recovered nearby: US -style shorts. UU., A bracelet and chewing tobacco, elements consistent with surveillance or witness reports on Decker.
The remains are well decomposed. That condition, together with animal activity, has made it difficult to know when exactly Decker died or determine the cause of death. Researchers say it may be impossible, depending on what state the remains and the environment are.
The beginning of the hunt
This is part of an investigation of months that began when Decker did not return to his children of a visit ordered by the Court on May 30. Their bodies were found on June 2 in Rock Island Campground. Decker was sought for murder and kidnapping in the first degree.
The authorities have notified Decker’s family and are providing regular updates. They say they want to move carefully with forensic work.
What PCT hikers should know
The remote and steep ground with heavy brushes slows the searches and can hide evidence of long periods. This discovery was in that field, which required the air and land teams to access.
