Jerome Boateng Retices: Former Defender of Bayern Munich pulls curtain over illustrious career

Former Bayern Munich -defender Jerome Boateng, a World Cup winner at Germany in 2014, announced his retirement to professional football on Friday.

The 37-year-old, who made 76 performances for Germany between 2009 and 2018, spent 10 years in Bayern after participating in Manchester City in 2011 and won nine Bundesliga titles and two Champions League trophies.

«I played for a long time, for big clubs, for my country. I learned, won, lost and grown through,» said Boateng in a video uploaded to Instagram.

«Football has given me a lot, but now it’s time to continue. Not because I have to, but because I am done. I am grateful for everything, for the teams, the fans, the people who have worn me. And above all, my family, my children. They were always there.»

Boateng also played for Olympique Lyonnais, Salernitana and Hamburg SV, recently with the Austrian side Lask Linz, where his contract was ended last month by mutual permission.

In July last year he received a suspended fine and a warning after a process with regard to allegations of domestic violence by his former partner.
