Juventus’ match was stopped because Fiorentina fans hurled racist chants at Vlahovic

FLORENCE

Juventus’ match against Fiorentina was briefly stopped on Saturday after prolonged racist and discriminatory chanting by the home fans.

In the eleventh minute, an announcement had already been made that the fans had to stop the chanting against former Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic, who is Serbian.

The insults became even more vociferous when Juventus were initially awarded a penalty in the 14th minute after Pablo Mari appeared to bring down Vlahovic, but the decision was overturned after a video review.

The referee was about to restart the match but instead had to tell Fiorentina captain Gianluca Mancini to ask the fans to stop the chanting.

It is the third year in a row that racist chants have been leveled at Vlahovic, who bitterly left Fiorentina in January 2022.
