Klopp criticizes the extensive World Cup format from Club, says it’s the worst idea of football

Former Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp has criticized the introduction of the extensive Club World Cup format and calls the worst idea ever implemented in football.

In an interview with the German newspaper that Welt published late on Friday, Klopp said that the tournament would put more pressure on a full calendar for the players.

The extensive format has an event of 32 teams that are held every four years during the pre -season, in the summers between major international tournaments.

«It’s a meaningless competition.

«There are people who have never been involved in the daily football activities and now come up with ideas.»

Klopp pointed out that today’s players have less and less time to rest, warning that adding another tournament was potentially dangerous for their health.

«They are too many games. I fear that next season we will see injuries like never before. If not, they will come during or after the club’s World Cup,» the German said.

Klopp was also asked if he wanted to coach again.

«I don’t want that anymore. I now have a job that fulfills me and is also intense. I don’t sleep in the morning and don’t go to bed at night, but I can organize my work much better,» he said.
