Kyle Walker announces international retirement

England player Kyle Walker announced on Tuesday that he will retire from international football after 96 caps for the Three Lions.

“I am sad to have to make this decision, but I am also very proud of what I have achieved with England,” Walker said in a video posted by England on social media.

Walker was part of the England squads that reached the finals of the European Championships in 2021 and 2024. He also played the semi-finals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup where his team lost to Croatia.

“To represent my country at five major tournaments, to reach the final we have reached and to be surrounded by this England team, especially the players and the managers I have had the privilege of working under, has been a great honour.”

The retirement comes just months before the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in the US, Canada and Mexico.

“I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart the managers I have worked under, from Fabio Capello to Roy Hodgson, to Lee Carsley, to Gareth Southgate and Thomas, for making a dream come true vcfgd.

«Thank you to all my teammates, past and present, and I wish everyone the very best. And to the fans, thank you for the support over the years. Keep supporting the boys, they need you, they need you to make sure they can make this country proud,» Walker said.
