Real Madrid coach
Mbappe missed Wednesday’s Champions League defeat to Manchester City, leaving Madrid with just two wins in their last eight games and putting Alonso at risk of being sacked.
«We have Kylian back, he is ready to play and tomorrow we will see and decide (whether he starts), that is obviously good news,» Alonso said on Saturday.
Real Madrid are without several injured players for the match in Vitoria, including Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dani Carvajal and Eduardo Camavinga.
Fran Garcia, Alvaro Carreras and Endrick are also suspended. Defender Dean Huijsen is likely to return for the match at Alaves, which could determine Alonso’s future.
«Despite the players we have, we apparently have players who are strong enough and a team that is strong enough,» the coach continued.
Alonso said he hoped Madrid’s current struggles, which are four points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona, could make them stronger.
«We have problems, but we can grow. If we can put these difficult times behind us and change the dynamics, maybe in a few weeks we will look back and think: ‘We have been through a lot, but it has made us stronger’.»
