Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal has been released from the Spain squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Georgia and Turkey, the Spanish Federation (RFEF) announced on Tuesday.
It revealed that the teenager underwent an «invasive radio frequency procedure» to treat a discomfort in the pubic area on Monday, the start of the national team’s training camp.
“The procedure was carried out without prior notice to the Selection medical staff, who were only informed of its details through a report received at 10:40 pm last night, which indicates the medical advice of rest for 7-10 days,” the statement said.
“Given this situation, and always prioritizing the health, safety and well-being of the player, the Royal Spanish Football Federation has decided to release the athlete from this call.”

A groin problem kept Yamal sidelined during Spain’s matches against Georgia and Bulgaria in October.
Spain currently leads Group D of the UEFA qualifiers and will play Georgia on November 15 and Turkey on November 18.
Automatic qualification for next year’s World Cup is in sight, with La Roja still needing four points from the two remaining games.
