The Indian football team for men fell six places on 133rd in the last FIFA rankings announced on Thursday. It is the lowest ranking of India in almost a decade. The last time it was ranked lower than this was in December 2016, at 135.
The blue tigers have gone on a downward spiral since the end of 2023, when it won three trophies and broke into the top 100.
However, it made a group offices of the AFC Asian Cup 2023 and an elimination of the Qualifiers of the FIFA World Cup in 2026 followed.

A change of head coach, from Igor Stimac to Manolo Marquez, did not help because India did not win a competitive competition in more than 16 months. Earlier this month, Marquez also separated ways with the team, with his last match that was in charge a 0-1 loss for Hong Kong in the AFC Asian Cup 2027 Third Round qualifications.
The drop with six spot was the on a post-steep fall for each team around the world in the current ranking, together with the Chinese Taipei, Cayman Islands, St Kitts and Nevis, El Salvador and Slovakia.
Only Congo, the Maldives, Haiti and Jamaica are the countries with a steeper fall of seven positions.
