This morning I woke up at 6:45 feeling quite well but vague to get in motion. I did a stretch in my bed and I saw how some people began to pack. After a moment, I packed and headed for privilege. I grabbed my cable food and started boiling water for breakfast. My stove is very vulnerable to the wind and lately it has taken water to boil. Bearbait, Sleepper and Cyborg were also slowly packed, so we passed the time while having breakfast.
The boys left a few minutes before me and left the shelter at 9:40 with a light and misty rain. After a few minutes, the rain decreased and the sun began to take a look. I was happy to take my rain jacket, since I am always very hot after walking for a few minutes. There was a gradual and rocky uphill to start, but he felt quite well. I quickly went to the disgust of Cyborg and continued going.
About 5 miles, I entered a lovely rock formation that was left behind after a massive tree knocked down with its entire root structure. It seemed a great place for lunch, so I enjoyed a tuna wrap and then a chocolate peanut butter wrapping. The boys passed me, but I had the feeling that I would see them again once I started.
I updated the boys quickly and continued to the first refuge, who was too far from the way to visit. However, I needed water, so I stopped at the first source of water. I received some service, so I talked to my mother on the phone and I found some text messages. The boys passed me in my water break. After being camel with a liter of water, I continued along the path. It was downhill and rocky during the next little one, so I couldn’t accelerate as much as I wanted, but still followed a good rhythm.
I reached the end of the descent and the crossroads of the path before the next climb and I saw the boys taking a smoke break. I didn’t stay for a long time, I wanted to maintain my impulse. The climb was gradual and felt great. The weather was the perfect temperature to walk and enjoyed walking today. The climb came to an end and everything that remained for the day was a long decrease of 4 miles to the shelter.
The path varied between the stone and the stairs of trunks, the rocky and reddish path, and the pleasant and soft dirt. I tried to move as quickly as I could depend on the land, slowing down the rocky sections and accelerating when the path was soft. The path passed a great rock outcrop with incredible views. I took a short break and enjoyed my last lames of the smakies.
After I was satisfied with my photos, I kept moving and met Elon and Tracey, who had happened to me before when I was lunch. We chatted for a few minutes, but I quickly advanced while unconsciously accelerated when the land allowed it. The rest of the descent moved very fast. I found a bigger trip called Steve that was in the shelter last night, and surrounded the corner to the shelter.
Rambo, Big Angus and Underdog were there, working to gather firewood. Apparently, Tri -met had arrived here very early and decided to get out of the smakies and continue another 3 miles to stand. He had been the first to leave this morning, so he didn’t surprise me! He is such a sweet guy and a great hiker.

Two lil guys
The Davenport Gap refuge is unique because it is the last refuge that is still surrounded to protect from bears. Apparently, all shelters used to be like that, but humans would feed bears through metal fencing and ended up being an attractive even greater than anything. It was quite strange to be inside, he felt like being in a giant cage, but it’s great that we don’t need to do the typical safe bear methods. However, I would still be using my USack, since fencing does not protect from the Mini Bears, also known as rodents.
I put my dinner early and went out with the rest of the crew I had dripped. Rambo had had a great fire and put my socks and shoes in front to dry. To vary, I was ready for bed quite early and I went to sleep too later.
