England will be without defender Jarell Quansah for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Latvia, the English FA said on Saturday.
Quansah won the Premier League with Liverpool last season and helped England win the European U-21 Championship earlier this year. He moved to Bayer Leverkusen in July 2025 and has been a regular starter for the Bundesliga club ever since.
England have not revealed the nature of his injury, but the 22-year-old has returned to his Germany squad as a precaution. He also played no role in England’s 3-0 win over Wales on Thursday.
Thomas Tuchel’s side top the World Cup qualifying group with a perfect record from five games, while Latvia sit fourth in the standings. The German coach had not selected a replacement for the defender prior to the away match.
