Leagues Cup 2025: Luis Suarez leads Inter Miami to 3-1 win over Pumas


Luis Suarez scored and had two assists when Inter Miami defeated Pumas 3-1 on Wednesday evening to continue in the Leagues Cup.

Miami played the game without Lionel Messi, who is sidelined for an indefinite period of time with what the team described as a small muscle injury in his right leg.

Messi was injured on Saturday in the opening minutes of the victory of Inter Miami over Necaxa. He was present for Wednesday’s game and looked at a suite in Chase Stadium.

Miami, which has eight points in the Major League Soccer Leagues Cup classification, is the first MLS club to the knockout phases of the tournament.

Rodrigo de Paul scored his first inter -Miami goal on an assist from Suarez in the 45th, so that the match was tied after Pumas’ Jorge Ruvalcaba scored in the 34th.

De Paul, the star Argentinian midfielder who came to MLS to play with his national team friend Messi, debut his club debut in the cup -opener of Inter Miami against Atlas last Wednesday and had two assists against Necaxa.

Suarez placed Inter Miami 2-1 when he converted a penalty in the 59th after a handball was called for Pumas defender José Caicedo in the penalty area.

It was Suarez’s first goal since he scored in Inter Miami’s Club World Cup match against Palmeiras on June 23.

Tadeo Allende finished Suarez’s second assist of the night in the 69th.
