English football club Leicester City has lost its appeal against a six-point deduction, the club and the Premier League said on Wednesday, as it battles another relegation.
The Midlands club sit 22nd in the Championship, one point from safety in the relegation zone, and face a drop to League One – the third tier of English football – unless the club can find form in the final five games of the season.
Leicester stunned the football world by winning the Premier League against all odds ten years ago, but were relegated last season. It was hit with six points earlier this year for breaches of the English Football League’s strict profitability and sustainability rules on spending.

“The decision of an independent committee to recommend a six-point deduction for Leicester City Football Club this season has been upheld by an independent appeals committee,” the Premier League, which initiated the original investigation, said in a statement.
Leicester accepted the ruling.
“Now that the matter has come to an end and there are still five games of the season to go, everyone at the Club is fully focused on the games ahead and on shaping the outcome of our season through our results on the pitch,” the club said.
