Lifting days! – The walk

Hello Bucky Beavers!

After days of walking on flat terrain, we finally reached some elevation in the San Francisco Peaks. This post covers the San Francisco Peaks region and our hike to Flagstaff, including our resupply there.

Day 5:

Alright dochallenge of the day: pack your bags in less than 45 minutes. 🏋️I woke up and Loose Tree walked by our tent in the morning, so I got up and started the challenge.

45:00 The tent tarp was being folded… but not close enough. The LSL package did not arrive on time. Nooooooooo, not TWO days in a row of losing the challenge. 😭 I wrapped my blister that was a little bigger. Shit! Then we went up the hill. I cried for most of the morning because we only did 7 miles before morning snack and I felt like I was holding us back. Then at lunch I had ramen. 😋 Complete change. Then, I was a happy girl for the rest of the day.

The scenery was really beautiful today as we approached the peaks of San Francisco. The terrain went from open desert to amorous pines and golden aspens. We climbed all day, but it was pretty gradual. The views were very beautiful as we ascended near the Arizona Snowbowl. Even though this was our first day with any real elevation gain, we managed to break our record of 21 miles and replaced it with 22!!!!!! I’m looking forward to listening to that Taylor Swift song called 22, although I don’t have it downloaded on Apple Music for this walk.

Oh dear, team.

I mean the music and how I use it. I have one earpiece inside and the other outside so I can hear if a motorcyclist is coming or something. I have a playlist called «Hot Beat💋». It’s on Apple Music, but I’ve used Spotify in the past. Spotify has audiobooks, that Apple Music doesn’t do. Although I like both.

There are no horny lizards today, but maybe tomorrow. I saw a tarantula spider.

I’m so tired. 😴

Day 6:

Good morning Sunshines! ☀️

Today we walked to Flagstaff to resupply. But first there is the walk. I got up early and started packing my bags to leave. I was so ready for Flag. The trail was covered in trees for a while, but every time there was elevation it seemed like the trees disappeared and the sun came out. 😀 To pass the time I made a “PJ Cravings List” of all the things I wanted when we got to town. It looked like this:

Kombucha 🥤

Sheep cheese 🧀

Inari 🍱

Pizza 🍕

Ice cream 🍦

I’ll tell you what I have in town when we’re in town. Duh. 😉

The terrain was steeper than yesterday. It felt like we were walking into town for 10 miles. LSL and I were expected to walk on the sidewalks, but instead we walked among the city trees. And finally we arrived at the center of Flag! We went to Whole Foods and decided to start with lunch. We are those hikers who sometimes restock at Whole Foods. 😆 Even our Uber driver later said we were spoiled. Actually, my mother has a sensitive stomach and has to look for gluten-free food on the road and we like our food healthy.

Well… I didn’t buy everything on my list but I bought pizza, ice cream and instead of kombucha I had coconut water 🥥.

Then we went back to buy trail food, followed by a stop at REI to buy things you can’t get at Whole Foods. I found some Peak Refuel breakfasts and Clif bars. I looked at the gaters and didn’t find any I liked, so we headed to the hotel we booked. I recommend it (Hotel Aspen). We had a king size bed and it was big! I had to cross the bed to get out. Real deal! 👑

Then my mom went to the grocery store called Fry’s to get some more replenishment items. things like tuna, sunscreen, butter, ice cream, and trail mixes.

I finally completed the Challenge of the day!! Today’s challenge was to pick up 10 pieces of trash from the road before arriving at our hotel. Hurrah! I finally made it! ✅

Oh dear, team

Today’s Oh Dear Gear is my purple Kelty sleeping bag. Purple is my favorite color. It has a temperature rating of 20 degrees and keeps me warm from spring to fall. Some people like quilts and they are usually much lighter than sleeping bags, but I don’t find that they cover the entire body. I like to stay warm in my mommy bag!

Alright, I love you and I love to write, but I’m a sleepy hiker with a comfy bed… so I want to sleep, if you know what I mean.

See you in the next post. 😊🧡😊
